406 drop links

Unread post by Peter.N. »

I have just fitted my second n/s front drop link in about a year, its probably not covered more than 12,000 miles, the ball part seems quite good but the rubber boot has perished and let the water in, I notice the other side is going the same way although it hasn't started rattling yet, I poked some grease into it in a bid to make it last a bit longer. The the genuine ones are about five times the price of ebay replacements, do they last five times longer?

there are company's selling a selection pack of replacement swivel boots/dust covers, in this case it might be an idea to save some dosh,
i don't usually agree/belive in fitting replacement boots to swivel joints because if the boot is damaged it grit and dirt gets in, then fitting a new boot will just trap it all in,

I think the cheap ones are generally made in china, and their rubber fails very quickly.
As Malc says a replacement boot may save money for a while, the lemforder links are o.e. quality, but only about twice the price of the rammel ones.

I`ve always used O/E quality ones from GSF or EURO, they seam to last well and are much cheaper than Dealer ones.

I will check those. The ones I got were about a tenner for two, the only OE ones I have seen were about £30.00. I wonder if it would be worth fitting a better boot on a cheap new one, I always take mine off and fill them with grease anyway.
