I thought it must have split, but infact someone had done a rather bad job or connecting it (guess they took out a 1 way valve or something) with tape
The carpet was much much wetter than i had expected. It was pretty much swimming in the footwell and cable trays and had been for some time by the looks of it. One of the strut bars (if thats what they are called) under the dash had a lot of surface rust so that was cleaned and then treated.
Left the carpet up for two days and its dry now. The water had got as far back as the handbrake which caused the "handbrake on" light to come on randomly and the passenger airbag to swith on and off all the time. Both seem to have stopped now.
Time to move on to another couple of niggles.
