Where was my car made

Hi All

Maybe a question for the boffings amongst you but my car had its 17th birthday yesterday (build date) and I was wondering where it was born
I know about the Iran connection more recently but for the European Xantia's, were they made in just one factory and where was it? If they were made in different factories/countries how do you find out where your car was made?

The 11th digit of the VIN apparently tells you the factory - but I haven't managed to find a list of these. There might be a reference on the ID plate to the factory, using the following 2 digit codes:

Code - Factory

CA - Aulnay sous Bois
CJ - Rennes La Janais
FL - Mangualde
FV - Vigo
U4 - Dangel
U7 - Heuliez
U8 - Sevel Sud Val di Sangro
U9 - Sevel No.rd
78 - Porto Real
81 - Poissy
82 - Villaverde
83 - Ryton
88 - Mulhouse
89 - Sochaux

On later cars this 2 digit code forms part of the RP code.

Being a saddo just went and checked - this is not on the ID plate on my 01 Xantia. However, it appears that service.citroen will tell us where it was built - post up the last 8 digits of your VIN and I'll look it up.

Of course if it is an estate it will have been built by Heuliez

so if your car has lots of bits hanging off it was built here "U4 - Dangel"

Hatchback so not Heuliez
I'll have a look at the VIN number as sugested, I presume that they were made at different factories in Europe?

The hatchback was made only in Rennes.
In 2001 the tooling was packed off to Iran, where they made a sort of Xantia until two years ago.
