02 Peugeot 206 rear beam issues.

Unread post by mirafioriman »

Hi,

I'm usually in the Citroen section being a Xantia owner. However:

A friend's daughter has an 02 plate Peugeot 206 which has just failed its MOT on back arm bearings.

People seem to recommend changing the whole rear beam?

Is it possible to replace bearings and if so how much are they and where are they available from?

It is possible to change the bearings, but the beam will be damaged, so dont bother trying, the beam is only mild steel, so once the bearing breaks, it damages the machined axle.
the guys who recon the axles, extract the worn part, and make a new one that is slightly larger, so it can be re-pressed into the centre tube.If it is not a bit larger, it will be loose, as it is not intended to be removed. This is certainly not a diy job,and they sell the beams for about £350.Obviously you can get used, but they fail often, so it is a risk.

Thanks. Sounds like a poor design to me. I have seen the reconditioned beams for £350 sounds like a good option although expensive for her as she like us all is short of cash!
