Ubuntu Precise Pangolin

Unread post by CitroJim »

Anyone else upgraded to Precise Pangolin (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) yet?

I did my laptop and desktop PC today and both upgrades (from Ocelot) went very smoothly indeed..

It may be my imagination but Pangolin seems smoother and faster. So far so very good...

Nice to see the Banshee media payer has been retired and replaced by Rhythmbox.

The days of Windows on home desktops and laptops are seriously numbered...

You know Keith, I think that's the problem. I'm suffering LHM withdrawal symptoms. Not been near the stuff for a good two weeks now :(

Next weekend I must go an seek some Citroen-shaped therapy...

Saw it was available, but not had a chance to upgrade yet. Although i've got Win on this machine as well, I rarely use it - only when I have to access my work intranet site, as it will only work on IE  That reminds me (3 or 4 minutes to boot on a nearly clean install) why I don't use it anymore. Ubuntu gets up and on the net in <30s. Have they fixed the 'bug' that means it always plays the start tune at full volume when you log on....???? when I (eventually) get a new laptop I will be installing Ubuntu straight off. Will Lexia run on it, or under WIME (or whatever the Win emulator is called)?

Tis WINE, though don't forget, WINE Is Not an Emulator. I love their sense of humour!

I had Lucid Lynx on my old laptop but have stuck with W7 on the current one, I should give this new one a go at some point soon.

Yes!! :-D And it boots even faster now...

The question of Lexia running on it under wine is an interesting one. It has to be worth a try. What Windows OS does wine emulate? If it's XP then possibly it might be a goer...

Worth the upgrade just to fix the noise issue then!

Ubutnu and the NVidia on board graphics on this laptop have never been easy bedfellows, but I've got them to rub along now just about - as long as you don't let it go to sleep!
