Peugeot Boxer 2.5TD gearbox oil???

Unread post by shaunlfc1 »

Hi all,
Just done the mcpherson strut on the van, lost a bit of gearbox oil during the process anyone know what I should use to top up and where the filler plug is? It's a 2000 wreg DJ5TED .

Thanks,
Shaun

Found it out - its 75w - 80w manual gearbox oil.

8 liters for the 2.5TD engine.

Thanks

you may not have a filler plug - my 06 relay does not have one but you can fill it up though the reverse light switch.

8L sounds a lot! my 2.0hdi gearbox takes 1.9L

8L does sound rather excessive. Should it perhaps be 1.8L?
IIRC mine and my son's 306 both take 1.7L.

Definitely 75W80 and nothing else though. Total or Comma.

There is something of an "oil is oil" attitude among certain people, the directors of the company I work for among others.
It has bitten them in the arse yet again on Friday.
Operator of a very expensive inverted router was told to just use the oil on hand, not order the dedicated oil at £30 a litre.
It has seized up yet again. Four days downtime and a bill of around £3,000 to replace the buggered bits.
A litre of oil lasts two routers around two years.

It's the old cliché again, "Penny wise, pound foolish"

I have always found cheap oil OK as long as it matches the required spec.

I think the eight litres might refer to the engine oil capacity on these ? , I do remember some of them do hold a lot of oil...

Gearbox is quite large though, I'd suspect 3 or 4 litres at most but not seen one for a long time. I don't think I've ever serviced one thinking about it.

BE3 box takes 2.0 ltrs.
ME5T box takes 1.8 ltrs.
MG5T box takes 2.2 ltrs.
I think most 2.5's were mated to MG5 boxes.
It is the 2.5 DJ5 engine (cars) that take 8 ltrs.
The 2.5 DK5 engine (vans) takes 9.5 to 10 ltrs.
The half ltr difference is oil filter volume.
Some maintenance schedules assume filter change only every second oil change.
