Xantia questions and stuff
Might be some stupid questions comming up so be warned lol.
Heres the first one ive noticed about the car. When i srat it up. When its been standing for a while. It drops down then rises up. Could it be the struts what are going or is it normal?
I asked at bullwinkles for a hydrolic fluid change. He says 65 pound for the whole lot. Which i think is good. I t will probliy cost 40 pound for 6 liters of fluid then messing about with it. Bet he can do it with is eys closed.
Im quite lucky cos thers bob wilding bullwinkles and the one at broune. But i havernt gone to thebourne one yet.

Re: Xantia questions and stuff
I've noticed a bad desgine fualt. U have to pull the astry to get to the fag lighter. Because the try is in the way, I can't plug my sat nav in, It has to be a certin size the 12 volt socket does Is there any way of getting they try out by its self. Or would it pull the fag lighter out. I had it all sorted one of them clip things to go on the heater for the sat nav Instead of it being in the w indow. Like a airfresner clip then go to plug it in And it doesn't fit.
Surly I'm not the only one who as noticed this?
Thanks

Reach under the ashtray and pull it out and up, it should pop out (can't remember if there's a metal spring clip unerneath).
Otherwise, get a 4 way socket, screw that to the side in the passenger footwell and you should be able to fit the power lead into the socket and close the ashtray.

Re: Xantia questions and stuff
I would guess the dropping down on startup would be the anti sink valves opening then the pressure in the struts being lost in effect. The thing that pops out in my mind would be the antisink sphere if its the rear that's doing it. I would guess the accumulator at the front could be low if the front is dropping. Though I wonder if a low front accumulator could have an effect on the rear too.
I've noticed that too with my sat nav Jacksun! There is a clip that needs to be pulled towards you before it can be pulled off.

i don't like the fag lighter extensions as they are a fire risk/hazard,Xac wrote: Otherwise, get a 4 way socket, screw that to the side in the passenger footwell and you should be able to fit the power lead into the socket and close the ashtray.

You can buy an auxiliary socket for Xantia/C6/Berlingo etc about £15 or so; it plugs into a connector that's tied out the way under the forward coin tray.
I bored a 1" hole with spade bit, into the passenger side of the console, and from memory filed a little slot for the locating tab. The socket then clips in like a dealer fitment - job's a good 'un.

Re: Xantia questions and stuff
quite often the terminals down inside a fag lighter are not in a very good way if they have had a bit of use for what they were fitted for,Xac wrote:How?citronut wrote:Xac wrote:

so if you plug a multi adapter/extension in and plug two or three accessories into that you might be trying to draw more current than the bad connection in the original socket cant handle the load,
i have seen it back in 2003 in my daughters dersh (2cv )on our way to Vinadio Italia, we were using a fag lighter extension block with st nav, CB radio and a couple of other things plugged in to it and the cable got so hot we had the smell of melting plastic,
and the fag lighter on the car i fitted as new with heavy gauge wire,

Breaks
I was testing my brakes. Ive notice if i put them on with my left foot they go down harder. Left foot breaking seems better stopping. Have a go your self.
I went from 50 to 20 in a matter of seconds slammed on the breaks. It was a bit wet it was.
When i slammed on the breaks the warning lights come on the dashboard. Then went off when i took my foot off the break.
IS THis normal. Whats the car doing when that happerns ?

Re: Xantia questions and stuff
Take the ashtray out, pull the front of it off. It will come off without breaking - slides to the left IIRC. Then stick it in the glove box so you can put it back on when you sell the car. That's what I've done with all my Xantias..jacksun1987 wrote:Ill see what I can do was thinking about cutting a hole where the fag lighter is

Re: Xantia questions and stuff
It's not, it's just your imagination - seriously, it's because your left foot isn't used to braking, and it's harder to modulate the pressure at first and you're just slamming the brakes on rather than applying more controlled pressure, like you do with your right foot. Think about it - what do you usually do with your left foot? Just hammer down on the clutch... that's what your brain is telling you your left foot to do when you left foot brake at first. To do LFB well takes a lot of practice as you have to retrain the foot/brain link. I learnt to do it after I did my ankle in and was in a cast for six weeks. I could just about use the accelerator, but couldn't have braked properly at all. (Yes, I know it would probably invalidate my insurance here, but I wasn't living in the UK at the time!)jacksun1987 wrote:Breaks
