Transmission Woes

Have been given a Megane Scenic, 4 speed auto and guessing its a 2 litre?

Anyway, when it tries to change into 2nd, the little heartbeat light comes on (guessing its a 'check engine' light) and it goes into 3rd hold.
It will also do this if you shift lever to 1st without even moving.

Any ideas?

The heartbeat light as you say is the automatic transmission incident warning light. The only way of pinpointing the problem is a connection to diagnostics.

The 4 speed auto was also available with the 1.6 petrol as well.
