2001 Espace Snapped Cambelt

A pal of mine has a 2001 Espace with the 2.0 petrol engine in it couple than auto box.

I had to recover it with the trailer last night as we suspect it has snapped its cambelt.

Car was slowed right down to enter a campsite with a 10mph speed limit so engine won't of been spinning that quickly when it happened.

Are these engines interference engines? Is it likely to be the same as the HDi engine that usually only breaks its rockers?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately your engine will have bent every valve, I have not seen one do anything but.
They even do this on cranking if the belt is not correctly timed up.
Not sure if this is still the case, but valves could only be sourced from Renault, in 8's ie all the exhausts or all the Inlets, the valves alone were about £200. Nothing remarkable about doing the job, but access is never good in any mpv.

You just confirmed what we expected. As the car seems to be worth nothing I fear it's off the the scrappy me thinks!
