Sounds a fairly simple list of jobs, hopfully it will go swimmingly, however there is often always a hickup somewhere!

Can't wait to have a nice, smooth ride with no knocking drop-links!

Thought I'd give the system a clean up and flush.

The engine oil seems clean but peace of mind and all that.

This is by far the best Xantia I've had and I just want it to ride and feel right now.

Yes, all nice and straightforward

Just go a bit cautious with the fuel filter. Make sure the housing is absolutely spotless externally as when you undo the lid you want to ensure no muck goes down inside. The lid can appear to be very tight. It's on a bayonet. Use a good hex (not bi-hex) 22mm socket on it and a long bar gently.

Be very careful again when mopping out the filter bowl not to let any muck get into the filtered side and be careful with the rubber gasket/shaped O ring that goes on the bottom of the filter element - they can fall off! Use a bit of Vaseline if need be to hold it in place when fitting.

new drop links are wonderful. The silence is golden

Drop links done. Had to grind off the old ones as they were so rusty. (Why can't B&Q make a disk that can cut??).

Front spheres done, rears are still putting up a fight but the ride is so much better already.

Fuel filter was dirty and in need of changing.

Changed the engine oil and filter and it's much quieter.

Surprise of the day - Didn't need to buy any hrdraflush, it's already full of the stuff!!!

Not sure if I should drain and stick 5 litres in anyway just to make sure.

You sure it's Hydraflush and not just tired LHM? They can look very similar...

Unless you have a clear record of it being done recently I'd do it again just to be sure...

It's really orange, if it's old LHM it's never been changed!

Just need to shift the two back ones now ......

Depending on who has been looking after the car I would think that quite likely, as most garages I doubt would think to change he LHM fluid.

I believe an LHM change is not on the official service schedule

I'm sure it needs doing. The steering is noisy when partly on. You can hear the fluid flowing.

Considering making some 'heavy duty' drop links out of some balljoints and some internally threaded bar. They just don't seem to last 5mins!

If they are cheap replacement you can get through them very quickly indeed, try and source some better quality ones. I usually just get genuine Citroen ones as they last much longer.

Practically Comic (sorry, Practical Classics) had an article on just this in the latest issue... Looks perfectly feasible as long as the threaded bar is up to the job...

Buy Lemfoerder ones from Euro Car Parts next time you are in Nottingham and they need changing.

£40 for a pair and original equipment!
