Have you had a squint in the firewall compartment near the wiper motor?
If it's anything like mine, the 'filter' (it looks like a piece of old tights) which sits over the intake, was clogged with er, um, poo-poo!! (Can I say that?)
Clearing that lot took 20 seconds and was a worthwhile blow job.

Notor housing strips down easily enough. so does the motor. clean the commutator and rinse it in solvent. Let it dry. Reassemble and oil the motor. The two copper straps in the housing need a good clean and tighten. Allow an hour and a half. You will be amazed at the difference!
