Engine running hotter under load

Post by CITMAN » 31 Aug 2003, 16:34

Had my cambelt changed last week, while there were at it they noticed that my water pump was leaking so they changed it along with the coolant. I know notice that when car is driven with the engine at operating temp the temp gauge increases more than it used to i.e. from just above 90c on past the first graduate after this and sits between this and the graduate before the redzone, this is while the motor is cruising at 70ish on the dual carriageway. Where as before it only went upto the first graduate after the 90c mark. However it never goes near the red graduates or past the second graduate before the red one if you know what I mean.
And also when I go round left corner the temp gauge drops and going round a right corner results in it going up. and going uphill results in it increasing as well.
The enigne also runs well especially since the cambelt change anyone know a reason why this would affect the smoothness of the engine. my theory is the cam timing etc is more accurate due to the new belt were as before i would have imagined the old belt would have stretched a bit.

Has the system been bled properly? I would think if the gauge reading changes as you corner this would be a good place to start.

What is your car?
has the radiator been flushed recently?
Was the cooling system properly bled?

95 ZX 1.4I. IVE CHECKED THE TEMP USING ME MULTIMETER AND FOUND THAT THE GAUGE SEEMS TO READ HIGHER THAN WHAT THE MULTIMETER SAYS ABOUT 10C DIFFERENCE. THATS WITH ENGINE RUNNING. BUT WITH ENGINE OFF THE GAUGE SEEMS TO READ SIMILAR TO WHAT THE MULTIMETER SAYS. I HAVENT BLEED IT YET BUT HOPE THEY DID BLEED IT PROPERLY BECUASE THEY ARE CITROEN SPECIALISTS.

tried to bleed the system but me header tank leaked all the time so lost most of the antifreeze on the floor. It was sealed with a piece of old rag but was very leaky anyone found another way of sealing it up without leaks or bad leaks.

citman,
i've found the ideal header tank, a 1ltr rectangale bottle, eg a 1ltr castrol oil bottle, or in my case an empty dulux tinting machine colourant bottle, with a couple of elastic bands round the top to act as a seal.
i'm sure that if you pop into b&q, & ask them if they've got an spare one or even an empty one, they might be willing to hand it over to you.

I was surprised tofind I could bleed our ZX 1,9 diesel simply by upending a plastic gallon container (ex antifreeze) in the intake. I was initially measuring for making up sleeves, rubber bands etc and found I'd done the job!
Worked again when I found that I'd been given the wrong thermostat gasket.
