C5 2.0HDI EGR Valve replacement / Anti-pollution fault

Post by 10051550 »

So I'm getting ' Antipollution fault ' on the dash and the following error codes from the ECU P0400,401 and 402 - the cars is real flat at below 2500 RPM ...

I had suspected the MAF - but I've replaced and the codes persists

The pipes from the solonoid to the EGR are clear so I guess it's time to change the EGR valve

Anyone done this ? looks a bit of a job with a weird clip to hold the pipe on to the valve ?

Any pointers most welcome .......

Depends on if it's a later 136 BHP 2.0 or not Peter.... :-D

You really need to get it on a proper diagnostic computer and look at some live data. Guessing bits to replace against vague generic codes is the short path to spending a lot of cash for not much gain :x

Had the P0400 fault code and anti pollution fault warning. With the help of a forum member and his Lexia kit we noticed that the little black tube that comes of the EGR valve was split. Replaced this and now all OK. Worth having a look

Guys all sorted - it was the aftermarket MAF - having replaced with a genuine part the issue is resolved - be warned !!!!!!!

Yet another example of non OEM MAFs being unsuitable.

Is it difficult to renew the EGR valve. Local dealer says it will cost me 400 notes!

two bolts - used socket for one and spanner for other - feel your way can't see much - take max 1 hour - parts below ;

Worth getting from eurocarcare as valve clamp comes with bolt rather than spring clip type

1 "ECC1628JZ - EGR Valve - 2.0 HDi Citroen & Peugeot"
Price: £53.00

1 "ECC16283J - EGR Valve Clamp - Citroen Peugeot Fiat Renault"
Price: £9.86

1 "ECC16282N - Gasket for EGR Valve"
Price: £2.10

Thanks 10051550, seems simple enough. Do you know if there's any tweaking of the computer involved or is everything "manual".

Did a bit more research and the facelift C5 with the 138BHP engine has a different EGR set up and its located behind the engine.

Anyone had experieince of changing this?

Seems new EGR's can be had for around £130 and if renewal is fairly straightforward i'd do it myself and save a couple of hundred quid!

Hi All

Just a quick update on my EGR valve.

Not happy to pay for the dealer's Holiday Villa, so decided to have a go myself at swapping the EGR from my VTR to the Exclusive. If nothing else it would tell me whether it was the EGR or something else at fault. Once you know where it is and what bits to undo it's not that difficult (unless you have large hands - now have lots of cuts and scrapes - ouch!). Now I have it off the VTR I can see how it works and will clean it up over the next few days.

Now for the interesting! bit:

Had a look at the Exclusive on Saturday to make sure everything was exactly the same (it is) and yesterday when I went out in the car I didn't have any of the problems I had previously with lumpy running and hesitation around 1.5 to 2k revs etc. although the depolution fault came up (tending to ignore that now!). What was really interesting was that when I looked under the bonnet yesterday to check levels etc I noticed that I hadn't reconnected the wiring plug to the EGR valve! Wondered if that would make such a difference so left it off, drove into work this morning and it runs better than before. Not sure what other impact it will have (eg fuel consumption) but will reconnect it later and see what happens or if the problem comes back. At this rate I may not be changing it at all, just disconnecting it or putting on a blanking plate as I have seen other people posting about on here.

I guess the moral here is, don't believe the first thing the dealer tells you! Unless of course you're happy to contribute to his pension fund.

Rob.
