Allan, I dont know the ML5T but other boxes ie. BE3 the filler plug is a large flat hex or square drive in the end plate of the box.. remove NS wheel and have a look..

you may be lucky and fill through a breather on the top of the box.. I did this on Sunday with a BE3
others will know more

It's the ML5T on the 110 and the fill/level plug is on the rear of the diff and therefore functionally inaccessible...

Best way is to drain the 'box fully and fill 1.8 litres of new oil through the reversing light switch hole (remove switch first!)

Refill only with 75W/80 oil and nothing else...

i find the easyest way is through the breather after un/screwing the plastic vented plug, usualy 17mm socket/spanner size,

and as Sir Jim says drain the gear box and diff, then put a known quantaty back in,

usualy when pulling a drive shaft out you would loose aprox 1lt but this is not acurate, so the above is the only true way of knowing unless you have a level plug and the car is omn level ground
