BX diesel clutches.
Does anybody know whether the BE1 and BE3 boxes use a common clutch plate and cover? I know that the thrust bearing is different but I wondered if the rest of the bits are interchangeable.
Yes, the clutch plate and cover are the same.
Difference is in the release bearings, earlier one is all metal an the later one is part plastic.
If you have the bolt on type lever arm on top of the box (i.e. the one where you can unbolt the lever arm from the 'box!!!) then you'll have the metal release bearing. Citroen and Valeo both say that the bearing changes in 89 when they went over to the BE3 with reverse behind 5th, but experience has shown this is bollox. Just see whether the lever arm is the bolt on type (metal bearing) or the type that runs through the box on a shaft (plastic type release bearing).
