Any problems with 306 handbrake cable?

Post by myglaren »

The handbrake cable on my son's '97 R 306 D-Turbo has snapped. Any known problems with replacing it? (drum brakes rear).

dont know of and prob with the cables Steve, but if its bendix mechanisum in the drums they do suffer with the tinny stainless steel pawl/blade going awall,

this blade when in place locks the the ratchet of the self adjusters to stop it unwinding,

to obtain the bled/s you have to purchase the adjuster kit fromn pug at between £50 and £60   quid dependant on modle,

That's true although the 206 adjuster clip likes to fly off when you adjust it with the drum off :(

The cables are handed left / right and I expect different for disc / drum rear.

No known issues, only the drum really.

Oh, watch cable length, the estate and saloon vs hatchback cable is longer I think. I do remember something about the estate cables being different at least as in needed to be a fraction longer. Pattern ones usually are not long enough sometimes. I think the cabrio cable is different again (or its the saloon one)

Thanks guys.
Will get one ordered. Why he can't just shove a brick under the wheel beats me.
Car is going the journey in May (MOT due and too many things to fix).
He's taking his motorcycle licence and aims to have a GSXR600 by May.

The other side may still operate.

Do they not leave it in gear then ? , I've always left everything in 2nd, figuring it was enough to hold it but also better than leaving it in 1st / reverse due to ease of potential breakage if it was hit. Not wanting to start a "leave in gear or not" thing though.

It's quite dead.
He does leave it in gear but where he lives now is on a hill and he's a bit wary.
There is a level parking place outside but the idiots next door usually manage to take up all three places with two cars.
If it got hit it would be doing him a favour :)

Fair comment. Had not thought about hills. :D

Some do that here too, have seen them repeat. Six cars (four houses, same family etc) and they take up about ten spaces, purposely moving several at once to leave a "not quite" gap (about the size you could *just* get an old mini in if you really tried) , then moving two or three up together to get another one in, expanding them when they go out. You'd have to see it to believe it, its almost a qualifier for antisocial behaviour although to be fair they are all paying their road tax etc... End of rant. :)
