RECONDITIONED STEERING REGULATOR?

Post by DublinChris »

:?: Have done a search on subject but cant pin it down. I have leak from steering regulator on my 1998 series 2 turbo diesel. I am wondering if it is possible to buy reconditioned units even on exchange basis? Anyone on here do it?
Have been quiet recently as car has been behaving #-o should not have said that #-o
I have been doing jobs every so often and have now changed all spheres so suspension good and no ticking from accumulator up to 147000 miles now. Will get a photo up soon as she is looking reasonable when clean - if you dont look too close!
Would appreciate any info on steering regulator

Thanks DublinChris

You mean the pressure regulator, at the front of the engine with the accumulator sphere screwed into it and the 12mm bleedscrew that must never be unscrewed more than 1/2 a turn?

Where abouts is it leaking from? If it's from the bleed screw, then you can get a replacement O-ring by breaking the sacred 1/2 turn law and removing the bleed screw completely (best to remove the lhm return pipe from the regulator first and tie it up high so the lhm isn't syphoned out) very carefully, making sure you do not lose the ball bearing when it falls out the hole. Swap the O-ring on the end of the bleed screw, make sure the ball is in the hole and nip the bleed screw up.
If it's from the cylindrical end that a bracket is bolted to, then I think that contacting Pleiades would be your best bet for a reconditioned one.
It's important to note that the thread on the metal feed pipe changed over the years so you need to make sure you swap it with one that has the same thread, which Pleiades would do.

:) Cheers yes that must be it - pressure regulator the accumulator sphere is screwed into it :-D I believe its from cylindrical end and this is why I was looking for reconditioned one ok will contact Pleiades.
Thanks

here is price and part No.'s for the ball bearing and O ring of the regulator bleed valve

0000021710 BALL 0.07 GBP 0.08 GBP 0.08 GBP

0000402682 HYD OIL O-RING 0.74 GBP 0.89 GBP 0.89 GBP

and below is the O ring in the end plate/cap behind the end mount bracket

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
96157736 HYD OIL O-RING 6.37 GBP 7.64 GBP 7.64 GBP

dont know why the price is so steep for an O ring though,

i think there is a guide to fitting the end cap O ring somewere on here,

i also think what cause's this one to leak is the 11mm spanner size end moutting bolt being over tightend,
this cause's the end cap to rotate with the bolt hence damaging the O ring
