406 rear suspension

Post by Peter.N. »

Got back from Kent yesterday and found both rear tyres almost bald - my own fault entirely as I had adjusted the top links to set the camber something like right not realising that in doing so I had put about half an inch of tow out on the wheels. Now I know that the link length is for setting the tow in not the camber, how do I set the camber?

I have the tracking correct now but have the camber problem back, the wheels are leaning out at the top like Xantia with failed trailing arm bearings although not quite as badly. I can find no adjustment or movement in the linkage that could cause it. Help

The arms have an eccentric bolt head if I remember correctly, although it was rare we had to touch them.

I don't have any suspension (rear) data for a 406 at all for some odd reason.

I found a pic via Google, basically:

I hope the original pic owner does not mind me posting it here.

That arm, the outer end (nearest the wheel / hub obviously) the bolt is eccentric. IIRC I pry bar can be used to hold it when you have the desired position.

Hi Andy

The top link has an eccentric adjustment on the inner end which is what I used to adjust the camber - then found its for adjusting the toe in  Tracking is OK now, have just been and bought a pair of new tyres :x I will have a closer look for another adjustment.

Hi Andy

I have been under it again this afternoon and checked but that link is the one I adjusted for camber but it is actually the tracking adjustment, its forward of the centre. It will also adjust the camber but puts the tracking miles out when you use it for that. Presumably there must be another adjustment somewhere but I can't find it.
