C6 Questions / Answers for New Owner

Post by zaria123 »

Hi Folks Ive just bought my first Citroen in quite a number of years (previously having owned a 2cv, Visa 652cc, SGA Special, BX GTI).
Ive now just bought a low mileage 2006 C6 2.7 v6 HDi Auto Exclusive.

In the owners manual it mentions Bluetooth, and that connecting your phone to the car, is as simple as switching-on the bluetooth on the phone, it will then pick up bluetooth signal entitled 'C6', which Im supposed to select then type in a pin code.

I cant get any phone to pick up any bluetooth connectivity, and when I spoke to the Citroen dealer they say I need to insert a SIM card in to the slot on the dash? Which doesnt work if I've an Iphone 4 with a micro sim card.

Also can't figure out how to get the cruise control working, I think It isnt working, but I might not be using it properly :S The dealer said I need to press the 'pause' button (the one on the bottom right of the steering wheel), and then the '+' button (on the top left of the steering wheel). But nothing happens no matter what I press. Should there be an indicator light illuminate on the dash??

Any help would be great, as it is certainly a complex system in the car.

Cheers
Alan

If the radio has a slot for a SIM card then it sounds like an RT3 or RT4 unit, if it is one of these units i dont think you can have both bluetooth and RT3/4, not on this year of car anyway. The SIM card in the slot idea is not the greatest & it's a bit of messing around when you get in & out of the car but you can buy adaptors to make your micro SIM into a normal one, plenty of them on ebay.

Alan,

I think you have the RT3, does your satnav work from a CD? If so then the head unit is definately an RT3 and Bluetooth isn't available on that radio. My way round the handsfree issue is to get a PAYG sim card and then divert my Blackberry to the car after 3 rings.

The cruise control is situated on the steering wheel, it's the top button on the right hand side, you press once for the speed limiter and twice for the cruise control, after reaching the required speed, press the + button and then the cruise is set. Pressing - will reduce the speed, of course and the pause button does exactly that, if you press the button again the car will return to the preset speed.

let me know if you need anything else.....

Hi Sorry for the delay in replying, but I was for a little holiday to visit friends in Devon :P :P :P

A quickupdate and thanks for the replies. (Although I have the manual for the computer I havent a main manual but have orderd one from Citroen waiting on it arriving).

Yes I think I have the RT3 System, as there is a Sim card slot on the unit, so I will investigate getting a car aand doing as suggested.
ref the cruise control....I think it isnt working!!

I have tried all the options suggested, but none of the switches appear to do anything, so not sure if the system has been disconnected due to a fault or whther something has happened to stop it working (e,g, when I got the car the clock was flashing thus suggesting the battery had been replaced or let go flat).

A further quick question.....in this RT3 system. I am also looking at getting the newtest disc for the SatNav (as there isnt one with the car) but had a question first. Does the CD Slot in the system work only for the SatNav? I tried putting a CD Music Disc in it thinking it would play (which it doesnt), and the source button only ever gives me 2 options of Radio or CD Changer.

Also to play a video / dvd do I need to connect further equipment via the jack points in the glove box, or should it play via the same slot as the SatNav disc?

Finally., had the car for about 2 weeks now and love it! My previous car was a Lexus LS400 V8, and in comparrison is so quiet, smooth, and econimical. The Auto box isn't as smooth as the Lexus but everything else makes up for it :)

All I got to do is conquer the technology on board lol

Cheers

Try moving the steering wheel up or down, sometimes the point of contact can become dirty and stop the Cruise Control from working.

If you drop me a PM with your address I have a copy you can have from my old C6, its actually from a Peugeot but it worked fine in mine. The Disc slot is only for the Satnav

It needs to be activated using a lexia, however, it will only work when stationary (to stop the driver taking their eyes off the road when driving).

Thanks again for the replies,
Moved the steering column down and the cruise now comes up on the dash display, gonna try and have a go at working it now!
:-D
Sincerely thanks for you know how, can be frustrating not knowing a cars little foibles lol.
On that subject, the Lane Departure system.
To me it seems to operate erratic but i dont know the basis on what how or when it works. Is it based on driving across the white lines, and if so by how far? Or is it based on speed / of the rumble created by driving over cats eyes?
Cheers

Morning Alan,

LDWS only works over 50mph, and only if switched on, if you look at the centre console on the bottom right hand side there should be a green light, this means it's on. It works by shining a laser onto the road surface which then get reflected back when you cross over the white line without indicating, however, mine have both had a tendancy to activate when I've driven across lane arrows or words written on the raod surface.

I will drop the CD in the post this morning, The other question you asked, The lexia is a 'clone'

Hi
Just got the disc today, as Ive been so busy at work, Ive been staying over, and just home today.
Popped the CD in this morning, and it kept saying 'No Disc', I didnt have much time, so just left it, but tonight on the way hopme its working wihout my intervention lol.
And fantastic!! Thankyou!!
I even managed to work out how to get the Heads Up Display showing the route direction arrow too!
Ref the Cruise, I can get it to work by moving the steering up and down, but I need to do that every time to get it to work so might have to leave it in to get it looked at.
The lane departure seems to work more sensitvely at night time, and dependant on how new or worn the white lines are, but activates prob around 95% of the time to the right, and 80% of the time to the left. Is there anything under the car to keep clean to ensure the lasers work effectively?
So once again, thanks for the CD it really is the biz!!
Cheers

Yes there is, there are 8 tubes under the front of the car, that can become compacted with crap, a quick clean could do them the power of good, I will try and get some pics and post them for you.

The Auto box isn't as smooth as the Lexus but everything else makes up for it
Funnily enough I have the notion that both boxes may be Aisin ? I suspect the drive from a V8 petrol? will feel smoother through the box compared to the V6 diesel.

Ref the gearbox i guess thats prob true that the big V8 would operate smoother, but otherwise overall the Citeoen is ar superior.

Another quick query
How easy is it to replace the auto gear knob?

Everything is mint in my car except the plastic chrome on the gearknob has started to peel in one small place

I've never tried but If it's like the C5 one then it can be twisted about 90 degrees and pulled off, might be worth you having a look at http://www.C6owners.org" there is a technical section on the site.

My C6 gearbox was not as smooth as I thought it should be, couldn't get bung freed to drain the gearbox, so I took it to a gearbox specialist in Liverpool. They managed to remove the bung, changed the oil and also put in some additive, that did the trick and now changes are much smoother.
