I noticed this a few days ago and just managed to see what it is, disappears very quickly, only on while key is turned when first starting.
It is a white key within a square and appears on the dash, next to the 'doors open' symbol in the speedo on my car.
I am guessing it is saying that the key is within range of the reciever but can someone confirm that.
I assume it will flash or stay on if there is a problem, I have a dashboard light diagram but this isn't on it.

Yes, it's the immobilizer icon and it flashes to let you know that the key has been detected and recognized as genuine. What you describe is the normal starting procedure.
The problems begin when that icon remains lit and/or keeps blinking, like in my case.

Thanks for confirming it is ok, and sorry to hear you know because of problems with yours.
I just wanted to be sure what it was as my normal dashboard policy is (blown bulbs aside) no lights = good, anything else is always a worry.
