Hello guys,
1998 Pug 406 1900TD Estate
Got in the car today and went to drive forward and heard a grinding noise. Backed it back into the parking space and noticed the ns was really low. Jacked it up and had a book and the spring was floating around and the cv boot was torn. The spring had also snapped. I understand that the spring is located onto a plate that is bolted onto the shock shaft.
How easy / hard is it to change a CV boot?
I've changed springs before just next a boot.
Also, where is the best / most economical place to buy boots from?
Thanks in advance.
James

Re: Suspension snapped and took out CV boot
The n/s is easiest because it doesn't have a centre bearing. Undo the hub nut and bottom balljoint, you should then be able to pull the hub out far enough to remove the shaft, put a tray under the diff to catch the oil and don't forget to top up the hearbox afterwards. Put the shaft in a vice and remove the remains of the boot and the grease, using a drift on the inner end of the joint and against the shaft and a big hammer, drive the joint outwards, when you hit it hard enough the snap ring will let go and the joint will slide off the end - reverse instructions for reassembly, and dont forget to fill the joint the grease. Obtain a boot from a supplier such as GSF, dont use the cheap universal ones they don't last.

Thanks Peter,
was on the phone to malcolm who suggested I just take the entire shock assembly and shaft from a doner car I've got and swap them over. Hopefully wont be too much of a task as my car is on the side of the road lol!
Wish me luck!!

Yep, that's probably the easiest way.
