I always use Shell or BP, as they are the top brands and are NO more expensive than supermarket or other low grade fuels. I believe fuels are different, plenty of info to support this fact, however if you don't thats fine.

I also use Total oil, as Total made an oil for the PSA HDi engines with FAP filters, Total Ineo ECS, and so that is what I use.

Stick with the best brands you can.

I flip between Total and Shell for diesel but buy the recommended Total oil.
I think the LDS I bought was Total but wouldn't swear to it.

I think there needs to be a Tesco Value 5L bottle of LDS for when you have a C5 with a mushed steering rack and fancy treating yourself to power steering for a day or two.

Absolutely no need to use Total specifically, it's just a marketing arrangement between Citroen and Total. Any oil of the correct spec will be fine and possibly even superior to Total, depending on brand. I use Morris oil and have done in all my Citroens for years with no problems at all. I also use supermarket fuel, again without any problems.
The fuel issue is something that will run forever but one thing to consider is that heavy diesel plant equipment and farm machinery, like Tractors, Bulldozers, JCB's, Dump Trucks etc all work fine on red diesel. The engines in these things are massively expensive and these days are every bit as advanced as those in passenger cars, if there was any detriment to running them on red diesel then I think the operators would use something else. Red diesel is hardly the most refined fuel on the market though !
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(
My past Citroens :-
'00 Xantia SX HDI, now dead due to accident :(
