Xantia 1900TD into a 106 Diesel?

Post by NI-XANTIA »

Ive been told that you can fit a 1900TD engine into a 106 with a bit of work. Has anyone any links or advice on this subject? What would be the hardest part of this conversion? Ive a 106 diesel here needing an engine and a Xantia here with a great engine and box i could use. So what to do?

Any help, info and advice would be great.

Thanks Owen

I thought about this about five maybe six years ago actually.

I don't think any XU type engine will fit because its longer (I think) than a TU based unit, plus there's the transmission length to consider too. Then again how much difference in width is there between a 106 and a 205 (but its quite close on a 205) but I never got to the stage of running around with a measuring tape.

The 1.9XUD N/A unitr would be great in a 106 though. :)

Might be a bit of excess. ;)

Although having said that we had one customer with a TD in an early Partner van. I think it was a P / R plate. They only offered a petrol / N.A unit new at that time, was something they did after the original unit died.

Any thing is possible ?? IF ,you have the expertise in serious fabrication, lots of time and money, want to be different and love a challenge. I would only say WHY ? just what would be the point of all that work. Spend your dosh on a nice 205 or 306 TD.

It is a lot of work involving much welding by the looks of it. Not sure what the insurance company would say either (apart from "that will be loads extra ££ please")

I fitted diesels into a lot of cars many years ago before you could by decent ones but my first diesel CX put a stop to that. There are so many good diesels about now even old ones that I wouldn't want the hastle any more.

as said above, you can fit any engine into any engine bay with enough time, skills and money!!
a few years back Pugperformance put the 306 Gti-6 lump in a 106, took a lot of work, fabrication and the owner could no longer get around mini roundabouts due to the gear box poking into the wheel arch so much that they had to weld a stop on the rack to stop the wheel hitting the box, - caused a lot of internet arguments as they didnt do so until they saw the comments online!!

you'd need to put the gti running gear on really to make it properly useable, as the extra weight of the lump and ancilleries up front on a small car will have quite an effedct on the handling and drive of the car!!

Without wanting to spam place place so soon, where's the OP based?

My 1.5D 106 ate it's clutch/gearbox recently forcing a new car (my own fault, not the cars), and it's sat bored since then.. if OP isn't far away then it might be possible to pickup a new 'great cond' engine cheapish...
