Peugeot 206 shutting off

Unread post by daveo »

I have a 206 1.9 diesel year 2000 been shutting off intermittently (which would allow restart after an hour or a few days depending on how it felt) now gone permanent. It's either the stop solenoid it's self or something triggering it probably the ECU which would be my guess as getting nothing on diagnostics. I'm thinking along the lines of ripping the armouring off the pump and trying to rewire the stop solenoid like it should have been in the first place. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

That would work although you may have to wire the ign feed to the reverse light on a multiplexed one if I remember correctly. You cannot with some of these just extract the solenoid on these unlike say a 306 / Xantia / 406 etc it has a strange antistart unit, I can only describe it as a "tube thing" (I have a pic somewhere) , standard solenoids are available but take a bit of finding for some as the usual ones either do not shut the fuel off at all or do not let any pass.

Is it fully multiplexed ? (you are right on the changeover year)

Is everything else dying at the same time (fuel gauge etc) ? , that would indicate a BSI fault or an ignition switch issue. BSi's can do this if there's an alternator problem too.

Check for air ingress on the fuel lines and /or fuel filter causing fuel starvation...

I did my usual and jumped in at the deep end rather than working through the more obvious (and more likely) causes

No it's the pump shutting down! Hence why I asked the question.
