xantia 1.9 td stiff steering

Xantia steering goes stiff intermittently seems better in the wet any ideas what is causing this? :?

I suppose the obvious would be checking the green blood level,and also checking the aux belt is tight enough.

I would say wd40 / spray grease the steering rack universal joint, mine started like that and got far worse !

Also check both ends of the LHM feed pipe (rubber pipe from the resevoir to the pump) are very tight and there are no splits letting in air.

Firstly it will be the UJ joint.... Most highly likely, as they do sieze up and Ive had a few do it now.

Secondly.. check the LHM fluid Filter, as THIS FILTER near the bottom of the page was found to be restricting mums PAS on her Xantia! The circular filter.

Thanks for all your input guys, tried all, the one that worked on this was a good dosing of wd40, back to normal thanks

Yup the useual UJ.. KEEP on top of that joint give it a dose once a week to help loosen it up..

Sounds like you caught it just in time, they can get that bad that even a dose of WD wont help, and it needs removing from the car to free up properly..
