I am moving.. for the third time this year.
anyway,
I really cant justify two cars (taxed and insured no way) .. but can i justify getting rid of either
The xant has been a rock, and very cheap with WVO.. having roofbars, towbar have also helped loads.. it is due an mot, which I will try for anyway, I know it well, it's on 165K but I rebuilt the top end at 120K and gave it a full service.. it has exclusive alloys and seats, 4 fairly new tyres, and runs well..the bodywork is about 80% of what it should be, mainly small dents in bonnet, scuffing on bumpers, and a previous-owner outer-sill dent..
It's a 99 TD and i see no reason why it wont carry on for some years to come..
What is it realistcally worth pretty much as is? £400? and what do I save by driving it .. loads at 50ppl !..
I would love to keep the coupe, as I have only done 3000 miles in it since I brought it.. It is a nice way to travel, clean, better equipped, good looking..
It also needs an MOT.. but is in pretty good shape otherwise.. It is on 100K but the engine is 50K, which counts for something.. It also has sequential LPG although I have yet to finish fitting it.. I will do this though..the kit will need calibration and certification by the new owner..
It's a 97 V6SE auto 'R' plate..in blue..
If I keep the coupe, put on the road at end of March, I expect a rise in insurance, even on LPG it wont get half the relative economy of the xant.. so straight away I will be down..
I could try and find somewhere to park it.. then if the xant ever does go badly wrong, I have a car ready.. in some respects that is worth more than the ?800 I would get for selling her..
just thinking out loud really.. interested in any responses..
John
edit..
I realise this whole thing depends on lots of other things and is very subjective..
Does anyone keep a car as a spare ? for all the hassle it can be,, especially when the spare car is argueably nicer / better than the daily driver..
Grr wish I had got a mortgauge all those years ago..
