New leak from HP. Citroen doesn't know :( - SOLVED!

Post by romie »

Sooo, a new leak has sprung up from the HP.

It's from this bolt.

Unlike last time, Citroen pulled up the exploded diagrams for steering, brakes, suspension and the pump itself but it did not show an O-ring or even the bolt removed.

Anyone know what this rather large bolt is for and if there is an O-ring seal that can be replaced behind it and the size? :/

Cheers guys

Yes I've replaced that little bugger in mine, was dribbling all over the alternator, give me a few minutes and I'll get the part number.

That's easy :-D All you need to do is replace the O ring under the hexagon. It's precisely the same O ring as for the other hexagon - the one with the delivery pipe in it.

I can't get hold of the part number right now but if I'm not beaten to it I'll post it later...

I think I can cut the Citroen parts person a bit of slack here as I don't belive the exploded diagram shows this hexagon as having an O ring.

Ok so theres no part number for it... As you said!

However I'm sure it'll be part number 4026 87 or 4026 88, I have a feeling it's 88 as it's the bigger one of the two however I can't be sure.

Edit - having seen Jim's reply, the delivery pipe one is 4026 88, so that'll be the one!

A little word of warning when you do replace it, I'm sure there's something inside that has a habit of trying to fall out when you remove the hexagon, and a lot of LHM can come out if you're slow at replacing it, so unscrew it and keep someone handy to either plug up the hole with something or get them to swap the o-ring as you plug up the hole!

Not 'alf on both counts :) There's a spring, a ballcup, a ball and a piston all ready to make a bid for freedom and as you say Dom, it'll bleed LHM like a stuck pig and that's not good for the alternator.

To save loosing the spring and it's friends, when you unscrew the hexagon, keep a finger or something on the end of the spring at all times to ensure it stays absolutely put.

The problem is that removing thgis hexagon will allow the contents of the LHM tank to syphon out so I recvommend disconneting the LHM suction pipe at the tank end and allowing the resitual LHM in the pump to drain before you fully remove the hexagon.

Ah, such fast answers guys!!

Out of interest this is the hp side of what I got from Citroen along with part numbers (see below).

I think the bit that's leaking is circled in red.

What does it do?

That's wise caution, thanks CitroJim.

It's an alternate position for the feed pipe.
On some models the pump is fitted rotated one way or another so the feed comes from the other output, hence why it's the same size o-ring as the feed's.
