berlingo clutch cable - help

Post by johntom »

Hi
I am just fitting a new clutch cable to my 2004 berlingo 1.9 d, but the clutch arm doesn't pull far enough back now, so no clutch and stuck on ramps !

The new cable is the same length as the old one and was ordered from the reg number.

I fitted the clutch cable at the pedal first and removed the plastic sleeve once fitted. The pedal moves the arm but it isn't enough, what else do i need to do ?

Do i need to adjust the ratchet, if so how ?

Can you use a lever to push it back further ?

do you mean push the clutch arm?
ps - the cable hadn't snapped, it was the pedal that was just quite stiff

I refitted the old cable (twice!) and it adjusted up and pulled the clutch arm all the way back ? The new one just doesn't seem to adjust enough ?

Hi
i returned the cable to the motor factors and exchanged it for another - same result ?
These were 'firstline' cables, will only a genuine cable do the job ?

Has the release arm bent or gone through the clutch fingers ? , that would explain why it will not move enough.

No idea, but the old cable is back on and the clutch works again - but the pedal effort is still very hard, particularly the last third of the travel.
The questions is, do I fit a new clutch, or is it the cable - opinions most welcome ???????

I'd have to suggest the problem is the clutch or its release arm. The old cable might of stretched a bit which is why it fitted.
