Hi,
I've just purchased a repossessed Saxo VTR, it's got one key with it but it's a standard key with no remote fob built in. I need a remote key or just fob as it has been de-locked. Is it a case of popping down to Citroen and they'll be able to order one? If so anyone have any idea how much they usually cost?
Cheers!

Assuming the key you have currently, starts the engine and has the immobiliser chip in it then you can simply buy a remote fob of ebay, swap the immobiliser chip into the remote key and configure the remote locking by inserting the key into the ignition and performing a standard series of operations (which iirc are detailed on this forum somewhere), sam

Re: New remote fob required for Saxo
I've had a look round on the net and the type of key I have apparently has a carbon transponder chip, the same as the on in this link: http://www.supremeplumb.com/cgi-bin/car ... item=00002" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It starts the car so it's programmed, I assume I can't do any swapping with this type.
Any other help appreciated.

Re: New remote fob required for Saxo
The transponder chip is a small remote device inside the key, on all the citroen keys ive done it can be quite easily removed, itl likely have a small access plug on the blade end of the key, swap that into the remote key and as the birdman said programming the electrical part is easy, and in terms of swapping the blades for the ignition slot if you heat the blade for around 15 secs with a lighter you will be able to pull it out with pliers and then simply superglue a new blade (couple of quid from timpsons) in, sam

Is this an early saxo with the single button IR plip or the later one (with the bigger headlights) with the 2 button RF plip ?

It's a 1999 model. Thanks for the replies so far.

Not sure if anyone has been able to view the link I put up as it's not working for me now. This is the key: http://www.keytrader.co.uk/Vehicle-Keys ... onder.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Silca SX9T5. It's completely solid, no chip at the base and no way of opening it up.

That type of key normally has a transponder compartment.
Look at the key head from the point of the blade.
On the larger side of the key head you should see a small square in the plastic of the head.
This insert contains the transponder which will need programming to the car immobiliser code.
SX9 is the standard designation key manufacturers use for a Citroen cruiciform key blank.
T5 is I think the transponder type.

Re: New remote fob required for Saxo
Some of these (earlier ones) you cannot code the remote locking (this is separate to the chip) , as they have to be ordered correctly to match the receiver. Its the same for 106's and 405's too.
