Xantia Slip Ring

Unread post by Six-cylinder »

We bought my wife’s Xantia 1999 V6 Exclusive with it’s airbag warning light on with the diagnosis that the slip ring needed changing. I bought a secondhand slip ring from eBay with the description that it had been taken from a MK2 car. I then took it to a local garage to change it, they advise me that one of the connectors is different on the replacement I provided.

The numbers on ours are:

61620004F
9627442580

How many different slip rings are there and what is the correct one for us?

Chris

I've just looked on Citroen Service and there are three possibles for your car dependant upon it's RP number, if you can post that up then the correct part can be established.

In mine driver's door sticker only gives the tire pressure values.
RPO number (four digits) can be also read from the location as shown in pic below:

EDIT: Usually airbag light might be caused by a loose contact under the front seats.
Make sure that plugs of the orange colored wires are firmly connected.

It'll either be where VertVega says it is or on a sticker in the drivers door somewhere.

My sticker had tyre pressures on it with the RP number at the bottom, the number you're looking for on this picture is 08253CJ, the RP of that car (my old Activa) is 8253

Good news with the RP number, now having spoken to my wife she reminds me that at the CCC CX Xantia rally Jim and others could not find the PR number on the car but Jim read it on his diagnostic kit and she keep a record of it.

RP 8071

The numbers on ours are:

61620004F
9627442580

None of this ties up to our existing.

Which models does it fit? As when I contact breakers yards they will not have part numbers to go on.

Fits all Mk2 Xantias with radio controls on the wheels built up to RP 8211 (3rd May 1999) - you will need to get them to cross check the RP number of the car they are breaking

The part number I gave you came from the Citroen parts website, it's very rare to find those numbers printed/stamped onto the actual part itself, RichardW has pointed you in the correct direction if you're taking the breakers route.

Just to make a point about RP numbers... the RP remained behind the drivers side (UK cars) strut up to around 1999 V reg..

I THINK It moved to the Drivers Door sticker at the same time they changed the anti roll bar drop links to 90 deg both ends.. during V reg or 1999...
