Car Insurance Suggestions:

Post by gadgetgricey »

Having a devil of a game trying to find a decent price for the Insurance on my Xantia.

All of them are over £500. , which is about £100 more than last year.

Dont live in a particularly dodgy area, no claims made, full NCD and turned 40 last november, so was expecting to get an old farts discount this time. (Checked the SAGA website, but have to wait another 10 years)

was even thinking Third Party Fire and Theft, but about the same, if not more on some sites :?:

Just wondered, if anyone had a recommendation.

Many Thanks

#GO COMPARE# #GO COMPARE# .............. LOL...

For a town Id think that was good.. Xantias arent exactly a low insurance group... The HDis are gruop 11 IIRC..

My V6 for me in a rural area was around 900 quid.. (34, full NCD..) the HDi Exclusive Im useing is around 450 I THINK...I know its not more then 500 quid.

Im with Direct Line.. Ive been told that Third Party these days is no cheaper, and in some places more expensive.

Think the days of cheap insurance is NO more... :(

Unless you have a classic.. Ive an XM V6 24v 200bhp, H reg, and on a classic policy with limited milage and NO NCD needed.. £17.60 a month..

Dave, here's a tip that really reduced the cost of Robyn's insurance. Do an on-line quote with Admiral, add some good older named drivers with clean records and take down the reference number of the quote.

Then phone Admiral and get the same quote. It may well be substantially higher. Then hit them with the reference of the on-line quote and they should match it.

In this way I got a good 30% off Robyn's insurance.

My Xantia is only a 1.9d but through money supermarket with swiftcover I got insured for just over £200 back in about August.

I'm 40 (just) and have a clean record and 5 years no claims discount.

My daughter is 34, recently changed her 1.4 Civic for a 1.8 Astra and her insurance with K****-**t increased on renewal to £914!

Went with Sheila's Wheels for £300.

Younger daughter is with them and they stuck an extra £100 on for her Rover 75 being a diesel.
Her 2.3L SAAB 900 cabriolet was less to insure and she was a year younger then (26)

Im with Adrian Flux, my C5 is around £700 for me to insure it, 24, 5 years no claims, no accidents or points, car garaged etc. I dont think its too bad, my C5 is group 11 insurance. Its virtually the same price for my Activa.

My sisters C5 costs just over £600 for her, she is 5 years older than me, more no claims, group 9 insurance car and live in the same house. That seems steep to me but was the cheapest she could find.

Insurance is increasing.

Renewal or a new policy? I hunted high and low when my insurer (the co-operative) wanted near £400 for my renewal. Full no claims, unmodified 11 year old petrol Xantia, low risk neighbourhood, low annual mileage. To my surprise I was really struggling to get online quotes to beat them.

Luckily I decided to phone them and haggle. By speaking to someone in "retentions" (they phoned me back to save me waiting while they checked a few details), and cutting out a few non-essential items, and mainly by adding my wife as a named driver, I ended up with an annual price of £218 fully comprehensive.

Well worth phoning a few insurers and discussing your individual situation.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

We got ours down by using an admiral multi car policy,For both the xant est. And the bravo 1.2 it came in at £540 with the usual bells and whistles, interestingly, 18 months back a quote for the bravo, Clio 1.4 we had at the time and my bx16v all fully comp etc the quote was £570!
we did find out that cars in garages cost more to insure due to the likely hood of the thieves would be more likely to fill the car with what they can find and thus create a bigger claim!

I have used 'confused.com' since they started and have always got a sub £200.00 price until this year when it went a bit over, the renewal from last years was over £300.00 so I went on again and saved my self £100.00, that was with 'Swift Cover'. We do live in a low risk area but I am 72 and both my wife and I have been involved in accidents in the last three years. I can also confirm that there is very little difference between third party and fully comp. Suprisingly although my wife has had an accident it still makes the policy cheaper to include her on it and the same with me on her policy. The car is an XM estate, about group 14.

actually an activa is a group 30 and a C5 VTR diesel is a group 23 ;) - there are now 50 insurance groups not 20 anymore, and it changed 2 years ago
