Leak from Air con pump

Post by KennyW »

Hi All,

I've got a leak from my delphi a/c compressor probably the shaft seal.

What size of belt fits my motor if a/c is not fitted

From the QH brand site it would appear to be QBR6 1448 with sun roof!

I want to bypass pump pulley until I'm prepared to fit/replace same

Kenny

P.S. I'm looking for a quick reply to my change today for work tomorrow

You could leave the pump/belt as it is provided you don't turn the A/C on plus if it gets too low on gas the compressor won't engage anyway. As for changing the belt route and fitting a smaller belt I think you need to source a belt of a different length to the one normally fitted to non A/C cars as the belt route is different.

Thanks for the reply DicKieG,

The number quoted is the smaller belt looking at my french manual there appears to be an additional roller bearing fitted near to where the a/c compressor would be

Will give it a go and see what happens :)

On the 1.9TD/2.1TD the A/C compressor can be bypassed by removing the eccentric (lower) tensioner complete and fitting a 6PK1130 belt running as follows:

HP Pump -> under automatic tensioner -> crank pulley -> alternator -> HP Pump.

The automatic tensioner will tension the belt and although there does not seem to be too much belt area in contact with the alternator pulley it seems to work OK.

I can't say for certain if this is good for the HDi but as it's a similar setup, it may well be OK.

Hi all,

On closer inspection, the leak is coming from the HP pump. Also the pump shaft would apeared to have moved.

I will have to remove the pump to inspected further.

As anyone had a similar problem, I am aware of leaks from the seals where the hydrulic pipes are connected to the pump but there are no obvious signs from them

Is there anywhere else the pump can leak :?:

It can leak from the bell end seal, and from the shaft though not often heard of it doing that.

Thanks for the reply Xac,

I checked the citroen service site and they appear to have stopped selling the seals or is this just another con to by complete pump.

Does martin @ Pleadies still sell the seals etc :?:

It's still under "Pompe HP" if you are in French.

You need one of No.3, 6 of No.4, 2 of No.5 and an oil proof O-ring from your local bearing shop for the front bearing carrier seal.

Being a persnickety type I also used ThreeBond 1211 (super sparingly) where the pump originally had a thin paper gasket between bell and body. Blue Hylomar would have been fine.

Trailer needs some fine tuning; nose weight still a bit excessive. I've blown the flange gasket, so under compression braking the car really does sound like a big rig!

Pretty sure seal numbers are the same as before; looks very familiar. The not supplied O-ring cost me about 30 cents, so maybe 25p your end?

Hi All,

HP pump fixed changed seal for suspension supply pipe O ring (19mm x 2mm) with new one and found old one had been damaged I suspect when it was removed and refitted.
Also changed the clip for a hose clip on rubber supply from reservoir All sealed.

I have kept the other seals in case I need to do a complete over haul.

This job can be done easily with the pump insitu and no removal of aux belt.
