Grab the wings and turn a quarter turn left to loosen the clamp in front of the battery.
Or use a 19 mm or ¾ inch tube or socket to turn the plastic bolt head in the centre of the clamp.

Agreed re the procedure, but the clamp mechanism often seizes and needs a drop or two of penetrating oil to free it, then a bit of grease to keep it free.
Otherwise, bring the charger to the car (but still disconnect the battery electrically before charging it).
Don't forget to let the system shut down properly before disconnecting.

I found mine difficult when I put a new battery in earlier this year, wiggling it backwards and forwards aided by a bit of release agent did the trick.
It is still awkward to remove as it is a very tight fit.

You've been rather quiet recently, Boris. Thought you'd given up on your C5s! :-D

If the battery's been sitting dead for a while, it will never be the same again - they don't like sitting with no charge in them :(

Battery wouldn't come out. The thing wont come out even when free of the thing with the plastic bolt. Annoying. Will try again.

You need to slide it towards the moving clamp, once this is released and the leads are disconnected. There's a similar, but fixed, clamp on the side you can't see.

hi i had the same trouble 2 mothsd ago it was a sort of pain to turn the battery locker but i managed at the end try abit of unti rust liquid and any type of oil without hydraulic :) you need to be careful though plastic is not very strong to try your power on it backwards and forwards slowly 5-6 time and it released it self at the end, hope it helps

This is not a problem you ever have on C5IIs, as the battery is out every other month to replace the sidelight bulbs!

Saying that, ive never had problems getting any C5 battery out, there is a bit of a knack to it though.

Mine was (is) the original battery and the catch was very stiff at first so took a bit of releasing, then a bit of a puzzle to work out how to angle it out.
Once done it's easy the next time.
