2.0HDi or 1.9TD

Post by tim leech »

A mate of mine is after a Xantia to use as a run about AND complete the Citroen Classic Challenge on, I said to be careful when looking a a HDi as there seems to be quite a few problems highlighted here and elsewhere which you wouldnt get on the older technology XUDT's.

I appreciate the HDI has economy and refinement benefits but on a reliablity stake which is best?

Thanks.

XUD really.. IF I was going on a long hall challenge with a HDi Id take a spare In Tank Lift Pump, and possibly an engine pump too...

But with an XUD.. with Bosch pump, once the cam belt and water pump are done, theres no need to take anything else spare!

Ive TWO Xantia XUD TD's waiting to sell... Both 100% mechanical pumps.. One an M reg SX TD, with EVERYTHING done, thats head gasket, water pump, cam belt, oil and filter, heater matrix.. all spheres are nice and soft.. if it needs to be perfect it needs a rear arm bearing replacment, and if you want to be extreamilly fussy the front nearside wing needs replacening..

Its NOT bad though... £300 quid WITH full MOT takes it away!

On just that the XUD, simply as once its running there's no electronics really apart from the stop solenoid and on later models the pump advance.

HDi's are reliable but like anything electronic the more components in the chain the greater the chance of failure.
Andy.

75k (from 50 - 125) in my HDi, since Sept 2007, without a single engine related murmur. I'd drive it across Europe tomorrow without hesitation.

HdI 110 Xantia is a fantasic car. It needs a good deal of looking after, they are no slouch and are excellent value for money these days. If they were manufactured now I would be first in the queue.

ditto

infact my choice would be hdi over xud anyday!! It does help if you have a lexia.. But as i said above 31k and at mostly 75mph on duel carrageway ive not needed it - damm sight better then people think they are...

How about this - a taxi xantia hdi 110 i look after. 277k...! Only regular oil changes and by coincedance the engine high pressure fuel pump failed.. Other then that its only been the other items around the engine common to all xantias needing help!

A little while ago I would have said 1.9td but since buying a 406 Hdi just over a year ago I have nothing but praise for them. Mine passed the 200,000 mile mark last week, about 11,000 of that I have done and it hasn't missed a beat yet. There are quite a number for sale with over 300k on them which is what finally persuaded me to buy one after Paul had sung their praises to me. :)

We sold a 2.2HDi C5 last week that was used for airport transfers nationwide, it had 452k on it. (and it ran sweet as a nut on the original engine)

Nice only done 75k on my 2.2 HDi, got many more trouble free miles hopefully. There is a slight whine from gearbox at 40mph but I hear its normal.

I got a HDi after reading many good reviews, was wanting a TDCi mondeo but not reliable.

Hi Jim

I wonder if anyone in England has got one of the late one's from the Company Saipa in Iran that's supported by Citroen?
