C5 2.0HDi Air leak in fuel system

Unread post by martinwiseman2000 »

Hi,

While investigating an intermittent lack of power on my C5 (2.0HDi, 57 reg) I noticed bubbles in the clear fuel pipe between the fuel filter and the pump.

Firstly, could someone confirm that this definitely isn't normal (I can't think why it would be but I'd hate to waste time chasing a non-existent fault).

Secondly, are there any common places where these vehicles develop air leaks into the fuel system or is it a case of checking every single joint?

Thanks,
Martin Wiseman

Hi Martin

As Hdi's have a lift pump in the tank I wouldn't have thought it possible to get an air leak as the fuel should be under pressure, a fuel leak is more likely - unless your in tank pump is faulty.

Do they? My reading of the technical documentation for that engine (DW10BTED4, I think) was that there was no lift pump and that both the low pressure and high pressure pumps were combined in the fuel pump/pressure regulator assembly on the end of the camshaft.

Ah, maybe I'm wrong then  When I saw 2.0. Hdi I assumed it was the same as mine but yours is possibly a later engine.
