54 To the Gallon... Result!
Ran Rattiva II down to Somerset this morning. Started off with a full tank. Didn't hang around much. Did a load of running around in Somerset and topped up again.
54 to the gallon Wow.. and on an HDi at just and just under 200K....
Now I've fully fixed the boost leak she goes like a good 'un....
Excellent car...

Re: 54 To the Gallon... Result!
Jim,
How did you know you had a boost leak and where was it ?
Best consumption I've seen in mine on a run was 58mpg from Staines up to Snetterton. Car was loaded up with 3 2CV race engines, a gearbox and enough tools to do ANY job on the race car in the 24hr race.
Nearly all of my running these days is urban traffic with very little open road apart from the mild Italian tune up once in a while, this gives a very consistent 47mpg (has done for the last 7 years).
Ted
PS Did I remember correctly that you hold a G4??? callsign ?

Re: 54 To the Gallon... Result!
Hi Ted, it gave itself away by making a loud whooshing windy sound like a gale blowing around the engine bay under light acceleration about about 2500rpm accelerationelectronmirror wrote: How did you know you had a boost leak and where was it ?
It was a big split in the little stub pipe that links the turbo outlet to the plastic pipe that runs under the engine between the sump and bell-housing...
It's ever such a dirty, oily job to replace it
I'll post up a picture of the split pipe when I get home later today...
I also found a small split on the big rubber pipe that goes from the other end of the plastic pipe to the intercooler. Repaired that one with a big bicycle repair patch!
I do indeed... G4MEZ although it's a long time since I've been active, sadly... Citroens take up all my time these dayselectronmirror wrote: PS Did I remember correctly that you hold a G4??? callsign ?

That is excellent MPG Jim, how will you manage to go back to a v6 as a daily driver now!
HDis are superb, over the last 7000 miles mine has averaged 48.6 MPG. Not bad considering I've just been told I drive like a bat out of hell!
Glad your enjoying it

I must admit to being impressed with our HDi Exclusive and even more so with the HDi SX we've got.
The Exclusive used to smoke really badly however after blocking the EGR valve is doesn't do it much anymore. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be though.
Glad to see you're enjoying the new car Jim.
David.

Re: 54 To the Gallon... Result!
Best consumption I have had from the 406 Hdi was 69 mpg between here and Minehead - a very slow road. It averages over 60 mpg on all long runs but I do have a very light right foot. My overall average for the last 8,000 miles has been 54.4.

My C5II 2.0 HDi best real life mileage is 50mpg. Not very impressive, I know, until you look at the map below.
All on one tank of fuel (62 litres to be precise): Henley-on-Thames to Dover, then Dunkerque through Hannover to some obscure service station near Lepzig. 680 miles in total, car fully loaded with a family of 4 and four heavy suitcases, driving at speed limit though UK, France, Belgium and Holland, and then averaging 90mph through Germany.

I took my C5II to France this summer, 3000 miles at just over 50 MPG. Loads of luggage, 3 people and high speeds, I can't complain with that.

Re: 54 To the Gallon... Result!
Excellent It's good to hear there's better to come...
I reckon on the return leg of 189 miles, including a detour to see DickieG, the economy was even better - the fuel gauge has only just dropped down a smidgen below full
She also turned over 200K on the way home, just before a convenient lay-by so I could snap a picture of the occasion...
I am really getting to like the HDi...

Everything REFUESE to go wrong! Now thats what I call a result!
Glad you are finding the HDi good Jim.. I can't fault them!
Paul

Sounds like you're enjoying the HDi then Jim.
Our Xantia HDi Estate does us sterling service and nowadays acts as a van. The rear seats are down in anticipation for the collection of a load more Visa spares tomorrow...
It just keeps going and going without fuss.
I at long last fitted the tuning box yesterday and tomorrow morning sees dad giving it it's first test run...
