Oil light?

Unread post by HDI Dave »

Hey all on this drizly weekend!

The orange light on the dash, top leftish, looks like a dodgy £ sign or summat..that's the oil level ain it?!

It's been flashing on in the mornings,5 seconds ish. This is at 4am in the cold dark rainy mornings, so of course I just left it

Just checked the level and it's 2 mill from full...as always..

Only difference is, I've not had time to change the oil this year,so I know it's overdue, it's black and stinky

Now then,

I've hurt my back, it's cold,raining..and I have to go to York tomorrow.Don't wanna go tramming down the motorway with weak engine blood :?

Where've I heard you can get yer oil changed for around twenty quid?

Did I dream it, because if I can, that would save me a whole load more back pain/stress! Hate going to garages etc, but hey ho, if needs must.

Ta, Dave.

The engine oil pressure light is red, the oil level sensor can be confused if the car is parked on a slope, are you confusing the light with the engine management 'K' light as that's in the lower left corner of the top left section, if that makes sense :?

The top right is the oil level, if the car is leaning towards the drivers side you'll find the oil level light will flash, mine ALWAYS does when the car is parked on a kerb so the nearside is higher than the offside.

The one below, bottom right, is the oil pressure light, should ALWAYS go off as SOON as the engine starts, unless you've just changed the oil in which case it may take a couple of seconds, never rev the car when it's on.

Top left looks like the cat convertor temperature light, it will be on if it's too hot, but only if the engine is on I'd have thought, I'm guessing it's on there as a self test sorta thing.

Bottom left is engine management light, again it'll be on as a self test thing.

^^^ and Dommo,
it would seem you're correct, cheers :P
so the oil wasn't low after all - I'd parked her facing downhill slightly, on the curb. The level sensor must get confused both ways then..as I've been parking with the offside/drivers side, on the curb, higher than the nearside!

Oh, I phoned kwik buck, 44 pound..

44 pund???

Ok, more pain killers, deep heat cream,(whatever happened to fiery jack? jeez that stuff was HOT..the wife once burnt herself when I had some on..but that's another story    )

Off to me local motor factors > 8 quid lighter for an oil and air filter > uber steady away, (2 hours to change the oil and filters  > me back had just about given up/bl%dy painful in the end, so > :drink:

and, she's done! sounds great,purring like a kitten..well, a 180 odd k granny kitten then I suppose :P

Few more :tgif: for medicinal purposes of course.. and as George would've said, Turned out nice again :D

Me too mate, I'm old school, grew up on pinto's,
engine int middle, carb, dizzy on one side, zorst, alt, belt ont t'other..simples
I agree,regular checking,dipstick etc, can't fault it..

..think all these sensors, which fail and give false readings,(why do we need em all nowadays?!! )

For allt numpties that just get in their car and run it into the ground,so I guess car makers now have to sadly build failsafe 'sensors' in..the car's screaming "help,I'm going to expire, you've run me with no water for 3 years etc"

Don't get me wrong, I think some sensors are beneficial..but in my opinion 75% of em aren't really needed.

Ok, off me soapbox now

Quick stubborn oil filter taker offer tool tip:
(yeah, I know that don't sound right, just these painkillers + beers = mild headspin  )

Get yerself some of these - plumbers wrench? Had mine for years. I've tried em all over the years, ,(filter looseners),ratchets, chains, screwdriver thru it,(btw, that is a good one on stubborn filters  )
and believe me, I've changed a fair few oil filters
but this tool, for me anyway,is my favourite.Even in tight spaces,(my Mundano filter was round the back, twixt bulkhead, but you could just about loosen it,then spin it off by hand ; )

Careful Dave, don't get those tins mixed up.. Drink from the green one, not the blue one

Well done :D It's horrible working in the wet with a dodgy back, good on 'yer - you deserved that tin of Denmark's finest!!! (even if it was brewed in Northampton...)

That's right, the top left light is the hot cat warning, only comes on if the cat has walked across a tin roof though...

That light has been about on PSA cars for as long as there's been cats but as far as I know it's not used in the UK and I don't believe theres even a sensor for it... I'm pretty certain all the instrument pods I've had out hadn't even had a bulb fitted for that light...

Indeed and you know, that applies in may areas - all this technology has not necessarily delivered its promises... Many years ago it was postulated that with all these wonderful inventions work would be a thing of the past and we'd all have so much leisure time we'd scarcely know what to do with it...

Something has seriously gone wrongs somewhere..

I recall many years ago that computers would lead to paperless offices. Time has proved that a paperless office is about as likely as a paperless toilet... In fact offices seem to have much more these days, along with an exponential increase in bodies to handle all this extra paper those machines that were supposed to revolutionise our lives produce...

They've certainly revoloutionised our lives but not in the way that was perhaps envisaged...
