Never had one with a hydraulic clutch so don't know for sure but I expect someone will be along shortly who has.

According to the workshop manual sealed for life.
Can be topped up with difficulty using Dot 4.
Later non XM versions of the hydraulic clutch have bleed valves on the cylinder to assist with refilling.

Thanks John, you've clued me in on why the owner (canny fellow!) has lumbered it upon the mechanic in question - who in turn, asked me...

Hi Addo

On the XM RHD version there are two seperate hydraulic sections.
They join at a "fit once" connector on the drivers side of the passenger foot well.
Some sort of piston arrangement that transmits mechanically between the two hydraulic sections. Both sections need checking for the leak. The top end has a resovoir with lid fixed to the clutch pedal so is easier to refill.
Good diagrams and description in the XM workshop manual 1995 Model Year booklet.
