Citroen Xantia 2.0L HDI SX brake pads

Post by stevestix8 »

Hi all,

Am thinking about buying new pads for my Xantia. Have looked around for different prices and makes. Have narrowed it down to either Pagid or Mintex, the mintex were more expensive and the pagid works up to higher temp levels.

Can anyone give me some advice on the best pads for my HDi it is the 110bhp engine with the 283mm discs.

Thaks in advance,

Steve

Unless your car is very unusual a 110 HDi will have 288mm disc's fitted, personally I always fit original manufacturer pads.

I believe that the 288mm brakes are Bosch.

I would look around and get the most competitively priced pads you can from a recognised manufacturer. So long as they are EU approved you won't go far wrong. (its not like the 110 HDi is a beast on brake pads after all) :D

Slight hijack of this thread. I usually fit Brakeworld pads as they are the ones my local factors stock. Cost around £20 and last about 25k miles. Then I got a set of Citroen pads off ebay. After 25k miles thought I had better have a look at them, they were fine and went on to do around 50k miles before needing a change. Got some more Citroen pads off ebay and fitted them last Dec expecting them to last 50k miles again. Noticed last night when I was changing a wheel that they are down to 1/8" after less than 20k miles so a bit perplexed. One set of ebay "Citroen" pads left so it will be interesting to see if they last 50k or 20k miles.

ok thanks for responses.

SaabC5 your right that it has been easy on the pads. I got the car about a year and half ago and all it has needed is a reversing light switch which was about a £10. In the last week I have had a complete cam belt/ tensioner/ crank shaft pulley/ water pump and aux belt change. The engine is sounding and performing better than ever.

The brake pad light on dashboard started flashing on a couple of days ago and so am replacing them too.

Rory thanks for advice. I have searched through ebay and other online sites like europarts. I can get Apec pads from ebay for about £34. (question mark over how good these are) they might do 20k miles or 50kmiles. Have you ever heard of Apec?

Otherwise I can get either Pagid (supposed to be quite good) for about £47.00, or Mintex for about £70 also supposed to be quite good.

Does anyone know how these makes compare? Milage and performance?

I have had a few sets of Mintex pads and disks on my V6 (same brakes as HDI 110) and I can't fault them, the stop well, wear evenly and don't score the disks too much. I change the disks with every 3rd set of pads.

One of the ebay vendors used to sell pad and disk sets cheap for Xantia V6 Estates, I don't suppose there is much demand for those in the UK :D

Are you sure?? Thats not exactley a light lump... And ALL xantias use the front brakes only unless you carry a lot of weight in the boot..

Having said that.. Ive so far got 30k out of my fronts though im gettin a bit of brake judder as i assume im getting low now..

Ok thanks for responses.

We decided to order the Pagid pads and we managed to get them for £35.00 thanks to 25% discount europarts are doing at moment.

Good quality pads at the cheaper pads price. The Pagid pads are more likely to do 50k than the Apec ones.

Cheers
