1997 2.0i Xantia 8v.
Having had the same trouble with my 1996 and my 1997 Syneries (both 2.01 8v too) I know what the problem is: it's that darned idle control stepper motor. First thing I need to do is take it off and clean it. (Any tips?) or is it advisable to replace it?
Is it necessary to reset the ECU. This means disconnecting the battery for 10 mins? reconnecting and start the car without touching the throttle and leave to idle for a while? (Or some such thing? - advice please?!)

Hi, having had identical experiences (K light goes out as engine catches, but as it wouldn't idle it stops and all the lights come on) so I am 99% sure this is the fault. A very recent Lexia session showed no issues at all.

One of the real snags with Xantias - and it generates no stored codes of relevance - is poor connectivity inside the battery terminals.
The amount of rubbish I bought (at great cost, especially in the light of local parts pricing) before discovering the battery terminals were at fault, was remarkable.
