Correct Engine Oil for Xantia XUD 1905 TD

Post by ecohouse1 »

I just wanted to check that it was OK that I put in Mineral Oil 15W 40 (Shell Helix) into my Xanta TD 1.9 XUD

I have run a few XUD lumps - BX Turbo & N/A, 309 1.9D and a Xsara with a DW8

None used synth or semi synth and I notice the owners handbook states synth or semi synth.

Is this all part of the longer service interval thing or will I wreck the engine with Mineral Oil?

Cheers

You certainly wont wreck that engine with good mineral oil like shell Helix. If that's what you have, use it. If you have more of it then use that too.

Consensus will be for a 10w 40 semi synth diesel oil.

Agree on 10/40 semi synth, that's what I used to use in the dealership.

Mineral oil will be OK assuming decent quality stuff, and ideally change it at 6K no more. Although with an XUD should be changed at 6K anyway, regardless of what handbook says in my opinion.

15W40 Mineral oil, and change it regularly, much cheaper than semi-synthetic.

These XUD engines did huge miles without semi-synth when they were new cars, so will continue to do so on mineral oil.

Oh I agree, but I meant (as above) the 6k service interval. Any more than 6k is too much I think...

I have always used Trago mills best, around £10.00 but suitable spec for the XUD - and the 8 valve Hdi!. I always chaged mine at 5k although the Hdi seems much cleaner so I leave it a bit longer.

The frequency of oil changes is much more important than the price of the oil.
