PEUGEOT 406 ESTATE TOWBAR WIRING

Post by johnway »

Hi everyone,
Just fitted a Whitter towbar to my '52 Pug & now looking at installing the towbar wiring. Apart from the large drainage grommet at the bottom of the spare wheel compartment I cannot find another entry point for the cable to go through. I would rather not drill a hole myself so am wondering how others have solved this? All answers greatly appreciated,
Regards,
John.

I Blame it all on my Dad!! (Sadly had to give up driving & his 2nd BX) but Mum still has a C1.

If you're talking about a feed from the battery, I took a 2.5mm cable down the back of the engine, into the conduit covering the fuel lines, up over the fuel tank and into the car via the large access grommet under the back seat. From there the cable went behind the panel and to the Smart7 relay fitted into a storage locker.

Thanks JohnD for the info which is very useful but is not the answer to my query. Sorry if I was not clear : I need to pass the cables from the towbar sockets into the rear of the car and am questioning if there is a suitable alternative to drilling a hole myself either in the existing large grommet or spare wheel area. Many thanks,
Regards,
John.

AFAIR my C5 already had a closed grommet in the wheel well. I replaced it with a grommet and fed the 12N through it. I also added another hole with grommet for the 12S close by.

Malcolm is probably correct , can't remember now but isn't there a louvred / flap type trim panel in the bottom of the N/S/R quarter ( part of the through flow ventilation ) that yer can poke the cables through ?

You can run a seperate 12V feed for the Fridge/Charging from there as well - internally under the cill trim panels to the fuse box . ( not externally or near a fuel line ) and there's room for the indicator warning bleeper.

You may have to run a wire under the metal boot trim panel for the O/S indicator .

* Mine was pre - multiplexed wiring . and it didn't need a smart relay either. Just make sure you pick the correct fuse box connection so it only energises when the motor is running andf put a seperate( easily accesible) line fuse in for safety,

Don't know how you carry on with Multipoxed stuff ?

hope this helps.

Sorted !!

Hi all,
Wiring entry solved : hats off to Dippy !! Easy to poke a wire down through the vent, tape to the ends of towbar wires and pull back through - perfect. Many, many thanks,

John.
