Xsara hdi - in safe mode - hp diesel pump

Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a Xsara 2.0 hdi 90 sx.

Y reg,no tax/test,looks in good nick,just down the road from me

Engine runs but is stuck in safe mode.

Wont rev past 2k rpm.

Been diagnosed as the high pressure diesel pump.

The bloke says he has a spare pump to fit, but is too busy/none inclined to fit/bother with it.

Looks like a nice little fixer upper to me, or am I looking at a headache? (what aggro can be caused when the hp pump goes? etc),

200 quid..Any thoughts chaps?

Sounds good Dave

before condemning the HP pump, get a Lexia on it and see the real cause... It may not be that difficult..

Somehow it's not a fault that sounds HP pump'ish but I'm not that (yet) clued up on these HDi things so I may be well off the mark...

The Lexia will reveal all

Ah, good idea Jim,

..any lexia owners near me? haha, I can never find that lexia location map jobbie! How much do garages charge for a sesh?,(urgh,hate going to garages,might invest in a lexia one day..)

I did think, cynically, why you'd sell a car if you had the part to replace it..But hey ho, s'pose he has his reasons.

What should I be looking at when going to see it, common problems.. I'm no Xsara expert.

Btw, not selling me Xant..darned thing's running great, so I couldn't upgrade even if I wanted to
