Post by froggy »

Hi
Just found a hydraulic leak - from around the large internal nut (19mm spanner size) - is there a worn seal inside here

Terry, see my recent thread on hydraulic pump re-ringing. It shows one of these exploded.

Normal Nitrile O rings are fine with LHM, it's just mineral oil.

There can be another cause of a leak there, a crack in pump body casting where the outlet valve screws into the pump. It was the cause of the pump on mine leaking from the same area. The crack was very fine and could only be seen after the pump had been removed. Hope you're lucky and it's just the O ring.

Your mode of failure was interesting, because the plugs appear to be installed with some sort of impact/pressure tool. Normal T-50 bits in a ratchet just want to climb up the splines and burr the capscrew - I used the "Attack Driver" for R&R; it came out looking OEM and no leaks.

I've had two leaks from the pump now. The first was from the pipe you can see in the first pic. Tried to tighten it but just made it worse. Took and it looked fine. Refitted it and I had a green fountain! Ended up buying a new pipe from the dealer and fitted it. Noticed a couple of the clips were missing so 'found' some. No more problems there.

Next the rubber pipe from the tank split at the pump end. Just cut off about an inch and refitted it. Really needs a new one now as the angle is a little accute where it joins the pump. [/list]
