lights going on and off after mod

I went and did the relay mod for the fans today. As i was doing it the little green relay under the fuses starts clicking mostly when the doors are opened but also when i start the car. The noise goes away after about 15 clicks or so. also the lights are flashing with the clicks, I have now taken the relay out and all is fine, all the lights and everything is working just fine but can't help wondering what the relay does and if i should need it.

Is this on a Xantia?

Sounds like the alarm is in operation and flashing the lights..

If you disconnected the battery and did not then reset the alarm either on the plip or the switch then this will happen..

Turn on the ignition whilst holding down the ultrasonic defeat switch and this will reset the alarm...
