Needless to say I'm now on the search elsewhere oh how I love car insurance, I haven't made a claim ever in 34 years how much money have I put into insurance companies coffers in that time?

Car Insurance Anomily
For the past few years I've been insured with Admiral Multicar on my two Xantia's and Dawn's BMW, today I received my renewal through with the price of my HDi being the same as Dawns Convertible BMW (£100 more than my VSX). Thinking that there must be some mistake I queried the quoted premium and mentioned that I am about to retire, new quote, £70 dearer, how does that work? Take commuting off your policy and it increases by £70

Have you tried RIAS and Saga for a quote?
I'm with Saga and although it's a touch dearer than others the big advantage for me is that you get unlimited European (not sure about Green Card for non-EU) coverage.
Oh, and after just one recorded message you get to speak to human beings.

Don't mention getting old in my house, its Dawn's birthday today and she's less than impressed at it being her 50th birthday
I'll be spending the next few days getting quotes from all and sundry including Saga, I'm not proud! I renewed the insurance on my DS last month and mentioned that I'm retiring but it had no effect on the premium.
Admiral really pee'd me off when I was told that should I find a cheaper price elsewhere they will match it
yeah right so why not give me your cheapest quote now? Let me do all the hard work, find a company offering a decent price then not give them my business, what planet do they think I'm on?

I give up with insurance, ive been with admiral for a few years after i put morrett's on the xm and Direct line terminated my policy when i phoned them to tell them about the changes
Every year Admiral take the p**s so i go online and renew with them as a new customer and get the same policy a lot cheaper than anyone else can touch.
I hate them because most of their call centre staff cant speak my language which is awkward when you actualy have a problem to sort out BUT price is key when it comes to insurance for me im afraid, just hope they stop this compensation rubbish so we can get the cost of insurance down a bit.
The xm is going on a clasic policy when i put it back together @ £130/year fully comp with mirror no claims from my main policy but they specify i have to have another car in use on a seperate policy which is fine
I think insurance is a sore point for us all

Yep, that'll be right Dean, it is a sore point, especially when insuring teenagers...
I must say I've always found Admiral call-centre staff most courteous, helpful and very easy to speak to. Must be my Welsh blood...
At the end of the day insurance is the biggest cartel and rip-off going
It's a national disgrace.
That's because they speak Welsh!!!!Deanxm wrote: I hate them because most of their call centre staff cant speak my language

One of my workmates is insured through Admiral and when re-insuring his Focus, the price increased by £120. He did an online search and found it for £40 less than he was paying - with Admiral.
He phoned them to see why and was told that was for new customers, so he cancelled his insurance then took out a new policy with them!

Yep, Robyn got a good quote from Diamond, who seem to specialise in that market...
£400 'ish for her 206 at age 19 and a years' NCB...
Diamond are just another branch of our old favorite - Admiral...
Makes you wonder just how many actual insurance companies there are in the UK when all is said and done. Two perhaps, maybe three...

very few jim, and this is the issue with claiming on another persons insurance, there was a time when you were not left out of pocket but now its very likely you are both insured by the same company and its like getting blood out of a stone.
The thing is you have to see it from both sides, everybody wants to claim for everything, lets face it anyone who hits a catseye is told to claim for whiplash
it makes the whole business very costly and the money has to come from somewhere....................

I didn't realise that there were many Welsh people living in BombayCitroJim wrote:That's because they speak Welsh!!!!Deanxm wrote:I hate them because most of their call centre staff cant speak my language
Admiral were trying to charge me £374 for my HDi, 51 years old, 34 years no claims bonus, no accidents claims or convictions.CitroJim wrote:Yep, Robyn got a good quote from Diamond, who seem to specialise in that market...

Having entered the very same details into comparison sties Admiral ask £100 less for a new quote with the same details, removing commuting and changing occupation to retired raises the premium by £35
