stereo from xantia to 406

Post by fangy »

Hi,
I just took the stereo out of my Xantia (not standered) to put into a Peugeot 406 estate.
The connector blocks are the same but the stereo won't come on, all it does is take and eject the cd then goes back off.
Does any of the wires on the connector block from the car need to be re-arranged?
Is the wiring on Xantias and 406's the same?
Thanks.
Fangy.

I'd expect them to be the same.

My initial thought is your permanent and ignition (well, accessory) feeds are the wrong way around. This can cause some very odd issues on certain stereo's where they receive a continuous feed on the 'ignition' line but the 'permanent' one goes away with the 'ignition' one remaining.

The standard is the yellow and the red, most ISO adaptors have these in insulated bullet connectors so you can swap them around, although I'm not sure if a Xantia / 406 will comply to this, earlier PSA stuff certainly didn't but they may of had to given EU regulations etc. If in doubt, meter them. There's also a 'lights on' feed for illumination and probably a mute for a phone etc too.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Do you mean I just need to swap the red and yellow wires around?
My multimeter's something I only use once in a blue moon, when I got it out it's dead, tried new batteries but still nothing, so I've been trying to use the manual's wiring diagrams. But they're making no sense to me.
Could you tell me what colour the live and earth wires are on the 406?
Thanks.
Fangy.

I cannot remember :(

Modern are usually red and yellow for power (one being ignition one being permanent)

I'd normally use a meter or a test light to confirm.

I had a look at the cars wiring, It doesn't have a red and a yellow wire,
It's got a thick yellow and green,a brown a grey, 2 orange and 2 purple, one of them is a thick wire.
Does anyone know what colour the main live is into the stereo is and what colour the earth is?
I've been trying to suss it with the manual but it's useless.
Thanks,
Fangy.

Its far safer to use a meter or test light to be sure plus you cannot always rely on diagrams being right.

There will be the power 'block' with an earth, a permanent feed, an ignition / accessory feed, an illumination feed (power here when lights are on) and possibly a couple more for accessories such as a phone mute etc.
