She's going to have to go :-(

Post by Buchan Loon »

It's with heavy heart I've decided to admit defeat with the wife's xantia. Having been outbid at £88 for a flaring tool on Ebay, my only option would seem to be to replace the burst pipes with made up ones. Had another look this morning and I can't even see where the pipes go, never mind get in to remove them. I just don't have the fight or the time to start dropping subframes etc and a lot of the nipples looked corroded to bits. If any of them shear in the fittings I could end up with a nightmare. The cambelt needs doing and she needs a couple of tyres and a front caliper

I doubt I'll get any decent offers for her as she is so it'll be off to the scrapper with her next Saturday

shame to get rid of her just because of a few dodgy nipples and bad plumbing, is there any hope for the car though?

ok ok, i will agree it does seem pointless throwing so much time and money at a Xantia when you can buy a nice one so cheap.

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............

Put her on ebay with no reserve. I bet someone will bid.

It sounds like a challenge to get her back on the road and some of us on here would do it as a project.

What's the mileage and bodywork like?
Cheers, Kev

Problem is I'm in NE Scotland, miles away from any large population centre where I would have more chance of finding a prospective buyer.

Mileage is just over 100k and body isn't bad. It's had one of the sills patched and just the usual small marks you would expect on a 12 year-old car

What about selling the parts of the car which is what a scrapper would do anyway.

I know there will be members looking for parts and some members are stock piling xantia parts.

Aaarrgh! I really don't like this beating me!

Daft as it may at first sound - how difficult is it to remove the engine? Any possible pitfalls/special tools required?

I'm no stranger to a set of spanners and have access to a shed and lifting gear etc. Reasoning is I could do the cambelt at the same time and change all the pipes with relative ease of access

Engine removal is not hard. So long as you have a crane. One great thing about the Xantia is the engine/gearbox is well designed to come out as one easy unit.

Basically, disconnect exhaust, remove driveshafts, disconnect selector cables, remove clutch slave cylinder, remove rad/intercooler, disconnect electrical plugs on the inner wings, disconnect fuel and hydraulic pipes, disconnect heater matrix elbow, remove battery tray, remove ABS block and LHM reservoir. Disconnect engine mounts and lift...

I can have a Xantia V6 engine out in six hours...
