306 struts

Hi, Im tryiong to change the front struts on my wifes 306. I cannot get past the first hurdle, which is undoing the drop links off the strut . the nut and thread on the drop links spins around . any ideas how to undo the drop links ? cheers Terry .

Andy's random tip: Give the strut lower mounting a spray with some penetrating oil while you're at this stage so it can soak into it a bit.

Some droplinks have a torx insert. You are (supposed!) to hold the insert still and undo the nut with a ratchet spanner. In reality the torque needed to undo it either way around means its impossible almost and you round the inner torx off. This does work if they are new but after that...

To be 100% honest, unless they are reasonably new (ie under a year or so) you'll really struggle to undo them, sometimes an airgun will help but even then it spins.

Some have a flat on the thread end (inner end) but not all.

You may have to snap them off and then undo them, I used to use a huge ball joint lever to "remove" the plastic part then molegrips to hold the ball and airgun the nut off. Obviously that's destructive though.
