I have just brought a new car so my trusty R reg 1.9td xantia with 175k on the clock complete with all its dents and scrapes, fading paintwork will have to go.
As its only worth £200 with its 3 months mot, I was wondering how much i would get for scrap??? Or i could stick it on ebay.
I also have to say that Englands first game in the rugby world cup was a right mess, they'll have to pull their socks up next time.

Seems to vary wildly
A couple of years ago I had to scrap a beetle, it was not actually that rotten either. Anyway ringing the scrapyard they offered £25 if I took it in, or nothing if they had to fetch it.
I found a scrap metal merchant who offered "about £80" but I had to take it to them, they would not collect.
I actually sold it anyway but it does seem to vary even with the fluctuations in scrap prices, its best to always ring at least a couple of places. Failing that Ebay ?

Never used them, but put your car reg in using the website below.

Believe they then come and collect from you.

It does make a difference where you go.
Dont ask the scrap yards not only do they pay badly they sell the parts and make a fortune out of a car.
We have a local end of life centre with weigh bridge. drove a mondeo saloon over the bridge took out the battery and the wheels off and got £180 for it last year.
They charge you if you leave the wheels on, but were happy to keep it on the forklift whilst I unbolted them. They were alloys and sold them for £50.
just checked my local free paper and it does vary !! ??

Can I echo what wotnot says. There is a clear difference between car breakers and scrap metal merchants. Scrap metal merchants actually charge you if you leave the wheels on but once off will generally pay more for the car.
If there are good bits on your car can you not sell them before taking the remains to the scrap metal dealer? You can also load up the inside of the car with all the old radiators, washing machines, etc you can find to bumpup the payout. In my experience you need at least four or five lead batteries in order to get a separate payment.

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Great advert: £250 guaranteed (subject to condition of vehicle), so that's not guaranteed then.

To use the Scrap metal car disposal route the dealer must be registered with the Enviromental Agency for vehicle disposal unless you have an old type V5 for the vehicle with the scraped yourself tick box. All new V5's since last year have the scrap tick box removed and must go through an authorised disposal facility. If not the vehicle remains on the DVLA books in your name.

I've just sold what remains of my spare Xantia to a local farmer who wants some bits off it to repair his mum's W-reg estate - she can't bear to part with it. He offered me £120 as he reckons he'll get that back when he weighs it in for scrap.
